The UFC Women’s Strawweight title is on the line this weekend at UFC 237. The current champion Rose Namajunas will defend her 135lbs belt against Brazilian powerhouse Jessica Andrade. The Strawweight Queen had no qualms about traveling overseas to enemy territory, as she defends her belt for the second time in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
Rose first won the title by defeating long reigning polish champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk by first round TKO at UFC 217. Next, In her first title defense as champion, Rose took Joanna five rounds in a rematch to retain her belt by unanimous decision at UFC 223.
The challenger Jessica Andrade is no stranger to title fights, in 2017 Andrade came up short against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 211. Since then she has racked up a three fight win streak, with her most recent win being a brutal KO finish over former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 228.
Andrade will fight for the title for a second time with her country of Brazil behind her. She will have her eyes set on becoming the second Brazilian UFC womens champion, but she must get past the calm and collected champion in Rose Namajunas, who will look to neutralise the brawler when they go head to head on Saturday night.
In the co-main event, Brazilian MMA legend Anderson Silva will take on Jared Cannonier as Silva looks to get back in the win column after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Middleweight Interim champion Israel Adesanya. Cannonier made the move down two weight classes from Heavyweight to Middleweight. He is coming off a recent TKO win over David Branch in his Middleweight debut, putting him back in the win column after two straight losses at Light Heavyweight. Now at 4-4 in the UFC, Cannonier’s knock out power will be met with the experience and expert striking skills of Anderson ‘the spider’ Silva.
