UFC 206 Holloway vs Pettis Preview

Main Event: Max Holloway vs Anthony Pettis

UFC 206 takes place this Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada. Originally scheduled to be headlined by the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, injury forced the Champ out and the bout was cancelled. To replace the main event, the scheduled bout between UFC Featherweight contenders, Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis was bumped up to the headlining slot. But with the PPV event lacking some what, UFC President Dana White made the decision to put an interim title on the line.

Conor McGregor ‘relinquished’ the Featherweight belt and Jose Aldo became the new undisputed UFC Featherweight champion once again. With a belt and a future fight against the champ Jose Aldo in 2017 on the line, both contenders are looking to put on a spectacular performance this Saturday night.

Both high level strikers, the former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis has his eyes on adding another belt to his collection. Having suffered three losses in a row since loosing the Lightweight belt in 2015, Pettis made the move down to 145lbs. Since making the move, he was successful at submitting jiu jitsu black belt Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX this past August. He will look to make it 2-0 at Featherweight on Saturday with a Interim belt around his waist. However, standing in his way is the 25 year old Hawaiian Max Holloway. Holloway has been on a tear since loosing to Conor McGregor by decision in 2013. Certainly deserving of a title shot, Holloway has had nine straight wins in a row with six of them being finishes. Sports Betting Dime have the Hawaiian as a slight favorite over the former 155lbs champion.

Co-main event: Donald Cerrone vs Matt Brown

In the co main event, ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone takes on Matt Brown in a Welterweight bout. One of the most active fighters in the UFC, Donald Cerrone will be fighting for the fourth time this year. Cerrone has been 3-0 in the Welterweight division since loosing a Lightweight title shot to Rafael Dos Anjos last year. His new opponent, Matt Brown has suffered four losses out of his last five fights. His last win was over Tim Means at UFC 189 in 2015 by first round submission, he will look to turn things around with a win over the cowboy this Saturday.

UFC 206 follows up from UFC Fight Night Albany which takes place this Friday. The outcome of Max Holloway vs Anthony Pettis will have serious implications in the UFC Featherweight division. But with Conor McGregor still walking around with the 145lbs belt, the new champion who ever that may be come 2017, could have a lot of backlash coming his way from the Notorious.

**Updated**

Anthony Pettis failed to make weight and came in 3pounds over weight which means that he will forfeit 20% of his purse to Holloway and will no longer be eligible for the interim title, even if he wins on Saturday.
