Michael Bisping returns to Manchester England October 8th to defend his UFC Middleweight belt for the first time against Dan Henderson at UFC 204. With a long history between the two, Bisping will look to revenge the devastating KO loss that he suffered to Henderson back at UFC 100 in 2009.
That KO loss was the first of Bisping’s career but one that shaped the course of his journey which would see many ups and downs as he overcame the obstacles that stood in his way of finally getting a shot at the UFC Middleweight belt. That time came at UFC 199 when he stepped in on short notice to rematch Luke Rockhold for the UFC Middleweight championship. He won the bout by KO, 3:36 into the very first round. A triumphant victory for Bisping that made history as being the first British UFC champion.
Dan Henderson, a veteran of Mixed Martial arts has been competing in the sport since 1997, winning the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight belt and Pride Welterweight and Middleweight belts. He was never able to achieve the UFC championship but he will have one last shot at UFC 204 before he retires from competing in the sport. Known for his knock out power, he showed the world that he was still able to compete when he knocked out Hector Lombard at UFC 199 despite being 46 years old. He did so in spectacular fashion ending the fight at 1:27 into round two, the same card that saw Michael Bisping win the title. However his upcoming fight against the champion will be his last, win or loose, with the belt or without. Some of the best betting predictions for UFC 204 see Bisping edging a decision victory as long as he can steer clear of Henderson’s right hand.
In the co-main event Gegard Mousasi will take on another veteran of the sport, Vitor Belfort. Having asked for this fight for quite some time, Mousasi gets his wish and faces the MMA legend at UFC 204 in Manchester. Coming off a 1st round KO win over Thiago Santos at UFC 200, Gegard Mousasi is determined to climb the rankings to get one step closer to a shot at the UFC Middleweight belt. The former DREAM, Strikeforce and Cage Warriors champion, beating a number 5 ranked Middleweight Vitor Belfort would put him in a good position to add a UFC championship belt to that list.
Vitor Belfort however is a dangerous opponent. His last three wins have all been KO finishes within the opening round and the former UFC champion has a total of 18 wins by knockout in a career that spans back to the early days of the UFC.
Mousasi knows that he has to play it smart in the opening round to avoid falling victim to Belfort’s swarm, and if he can make it into the second round then it is in the deeper rounds of the fight that Mousasi will be able to impose his will.
Another fight to look out for is Danny Roberts vs Mike Perry, the UFC Fight Pass featured bout. both strikers will be looking to put on a show, both with the skills to deliver a fight of the night.
UFC 204 will be a historic night for both Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson. Bisping will need to avoid the big right hand from Henderson while staying active and pushing the pace.
