UFC 193 heading to Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Featuring Mark Hunt vs Bigfoot Silva 2
UFC president Dana White has confirmed from earlier reports that UFC 193 will take place at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia November 15th. UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit will headline this card.
Etihad Stadium holds a capacity of of over 55,000 and could possibly beat UFC’s current attendance record of 55,729 at UFC 129 in Toronto, Canada back in April of 2011.
Also confirmed for UFC 193 will be a rematch between Antonio ‘Bigfoot” Silva (19–7–1) and Mark Hunt (10–10–1). The first fight between the two took place at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane, Australia in 2013, which ended in a draw. This fight was branded as the fight of the night and fight of the year, but it was tainted with the unfortunate news that Bigfoot Silva had failed a post fight test for elevated levels of testosterone.
Also for UFC 193 will be Michael Bisping (27–7) against Robert Whittaker (14–4), which will prove to be a very interesting fight.
Dana White was quoted in the official press release said:
“Finally the UFC is coming to Melbourne in what will be the biggest UFC event EVER!”. “There’s been a lot of talk about Melbourne, title fights and stadium shows. The UFC is doing all three at the Etihad Stadium in front of 70,000 people. Australia has been an amazing market for the UFC and to thank the Aussies for all of their support we are bringing the superstar of the welterweight division, UFC World Champion Robbie Lawler. He will be facing the always-exciting “Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit. Robbie Lawler is coming off of the most exciting title defense in welterweight history. We are also bringing the rematch of the greatest heavyweight fight I have ever seen between New Zealand legend Mark Hunt vs. Big Foot Silva. November 15 is going to be insane!”
