UFC and ONE Championship complete historic trade of Demetrious Johnson and Ben Askren

As first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN, a major trade of fighters between promotions has happened for the very first time in MMA history. ONE Championship and the UFC have negotiated a trade of former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for former Bellator and ONE welterweight Champion Ben Askren.

Both fighters had multiple fights still left on their contracts, but have been released from those in order to sign with the new promotions.

Demetrious Johnson (27-3-1) will make the move over to ONE championship. He broke the record for 11 successful title defences during his reign as champion in the UFC. He recently lost the title at UFC 227 when he was defeated by Henry Cejudo.

Ben Askren (18-0-1) will head to the UFC. He is a former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion. He has remained undefeated in his MMA career and recently announced his retirement.

Ben Askren has already started to line up some potential opponents.
