Dana White confirmed the news on the Toucher and Rich show in Boston but it is not yet known at this time if Conor McGregor has been stripped of the Lightweight title.
Tony Ferguson (23-3) became the UFC Interim Lightweight Champion at UFC 216 when he defeated Kevin Lee by submission. Ferguson holds a ten fight winning streak with wins over Edson Barboza and former UFC Welterweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos. Three out of his last four wins have come via submission.
Khabib Nurmagomedov (25-0) is undefeated and although having had long periods of time out of competition due to injury, has proven unstoppable in the Lightweight division. Nurmagomedov is coming off a recent unanimous decision victory over Edson Barboza, dominating the fight from start to finish. Previous to that, he dominated Michael Johnson at UFC 205, winning by third round submission.
This fight is due to be the main event at UFC 223 which takes place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, April 7.
