It was first reported by MMA Junkie that former Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis and former interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson will go head to head in the co-main event at UFC 299 this October.
Anthony Pettis confirmed the news via a twitter post and the news was later confirmed by the UFC.

Tony Ferguson (23-3) has been out of action since April when he was forced to withdraw from his rescheduled match up against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 due to injury. Previously to that, Ferguson had won the interim Lightweight title by submitting Kevin Lee at UFC 216 but was later stripped. He is currently riding a ten fight win streak including wins over former Champion Rafael dos Anjos and Edson Barboza.
Anthony Pettis (21-7) is coming off a submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 226 this past July. This put him back in the win column after suffering a loss to Dustin Poirier back in November. Pettis has won two out of his last four fights and will look to make it two wins in a row with a win this October.
This card is headlined by a Lightweight title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. This takes place in Las Vegas, October 6.
