The UFC have announced two new European events to take place in new markets in 2016.
The first scheduled event to take place will be in Croatia at the Zagreb Arena on Sunday April 10. Tickets for UFC Fight Night Zagreb will go on general sale February 12th. Croatia is home to recently retired Mikro Cro Cop and Croatian UFC Heavyweight contender Stipe Miocic. Miocic commented by saying, “It would be a dream if I was able to fight in Croatia, I travelled there for the first time in 2015 to train with Mirko Cro Cop and it was a great experience just to see the country and spend some time there with my family. I don’t know what the UFC has in store for me now but I’ll definitely be back in Croatia one way or another.”
The second European event will be in The Netherlands at the Ahoy Rotterdam on Sunday May 8th. Tickets for UFC Fight Night Rotterdam will go on general sale March 24th. The Netherlands is home to UFC fighters such as Alistair Overeem, Gegard Mousasi and Stefan Struve who all started their careers there.
“It is truly a testimony to the growth of the UFC brand to be breaking into two new markets in Europe in the first half of 2016,” commented James Elliott, UFC EMEA General Manager and Vice President, “The fans have been demanding local live events and we will not disappoint with two compelling shows.”
Both events will be broadcasted live on FOX Sports 1 in the United States and on BT Sport in the UK (part of the Setanta pack in Ireland).
