Stipe Miocic Retains Heavyweight Gold In His Home Of Cleveland

The UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic made his first title defence at UFC 203 in his hometown of Cleveland Ohio.

Miocic managed to retain the belt after knocking out the veteran, Alistair Overeem 4:27 into the first round. “He caught me that one time. when he caught me with that left hand right, put me on my butt. I fell down but I was fine I knew what was going on. He gave me that take down and then I just got on top and I was hitting punches and he knew he just couldn’t hang with me” he told Megan Olivi backstage.

He told Megan although fighting in his hometown was great, there was a lot going on and would rather fight somewhere else such as Las Vegas or Brazil.

For now Stipe will enjoy the celebrations with his friends and family and said that although fans are looking towards his next fight, possibly with Cain Velaquez, he just wants to relax and enjoy the win first before thinking about what’s next.
