Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier superfight set for UFC 226

The UFC have revealed that UFC Heavyweight Champion will defend his title against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 taking place at international fight week this July.

The pair will also coach the new series of The Ultimate Fighter Undefeated which will feature undefeated Lightweight and Featherweight fighter competing for a chance to win a six figure UFC contract. The show will debut April 18 on FS1 and will run for 12 episodes with a live finale to be announced at a later date.

Stipe Miocic (18-2) is coming off a recent unanimous decision win over Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 this January. This was his third title defence making him the most successful UFC Heavyweight Champion in UFC history. Stipe won the title at UFC 198 when he defeated Fabricio Werdum by first round KO. He then went on to defeat Alistair Overeem and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos, both by KO/TKO in the first round. Stipe entered the UFC back in 2011 and has only suffered two losses, one to Stefan Struve and the other to Junior dos Santos back in 2014.

Daniel Cormier (20-1-1) is coming off a recent second round TKO victory over Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 this January. Daniel Cormier won the UFC Light Heavyweight title for the first time when he defeated Anthony Johnson for the vacant title at UFC 187 in 2015. He successfully defended his title 3 times against Alexander Gustafsson, Anderson Silva and Anthony Johnson in a rematch. Cormier then went on to lose his title to the returning Jon Jones at UFC 214 but it was later changed to a no contest due to Jones failing another drugs test and Cormier was reinstated. Cormier is has previously fought at Heavyweight during his time competing in Strikeforce and in his first 3 fights in the UFC. He holds wins over Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva and Josh Barnett.

Miocic vs Cormier will headline UFC 226 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, July 7.
