It has been confirmed that UFC women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will take on the undefeated and former boxing champion Holly Holm in the main event at UFC 195 at the MGM in Las Vegas, January 2nd.
Ronda Rousey made the announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America. Rousey was expected to take on Miesha Tate but it now seems that plans have changed. No word yet on what’s next for Tate.
“She’s definitely my biggest challenge to date, so I’m super excited about it,” Rousey told Good Morning America. “I prepare for a five-round war every time I get in there,” she said. “No one’s easy until after you beat them, and with Holly Holm, she’s the type that is ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She’s not the average chick that I fight. She’s the best striker I’ve ever fought, and striking is something I learned much later in my career. So I don’t ever expect fights to be easy and fast. No one knows exactly how the fights are going to go, and that’s why everybody buys them.”
Ronda Rousey has a MMA record of 12-0. She has finished every fight in the first round minus the second meeting she had with former Strikeforce Champion Miesha Tate at UFC 168 which she finished in round 3 via submission arm bar. Rousey’s most recent win was against against the then undefeated Brazilian Bethe Correia via KO punch in Round 1, which ended in 34 seconds at UFC 190 earlier this month.
Fighting out of Jackson’s and Winklejohns, Holly Holm has a MMA record of 9-0 and 2-0 in the UFC. Holm’s most recent win was Marion Reneau via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 71 this past July.
