A title fight between UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero has been booked for UFC 225 in Chicago, June 9th. The pair first fought at UFC 213 back in July 2017 with Whittaker walking away with a unanimous decision victory earning himself the UFC Interim Middleweight title. They will go head to head once more with the undisputed title on the line this time around.
Robert Whittaker (19-4) won the interim title and was later promoted to undisputed champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the title due to a health condition. Whittaker however has been out of action since UFC 213 due to injury and was forced to withdraw from his first scheduled title defence at UFC 221 in February due to medical reasons. Whittaker is currently riding an eight fight win streak with four of those wins coming via KO/TKO within the second round.
Yoel Romero (13-2) is coming off a third round KO victory over former champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 221. The victory should have won Romero the interim title however he did not qualify due to missing weight. Romero is currently 3-1 in his last four bouts with his loss to Robert Whittaker breaking an eight fight win streak. Yoel Romero has earned 11 out of his 13 total wins via KO/TKO.
This bout will serve as the main event for UFC 225, more bouts are due to be announced.
