First reported by the Telegraph, Welterweights Paul Daley and Lorenz Larkin will go head to head at Bellator 183 in San Jose, September 23rd.
Paul Daley (39-15-2) is coming off a second round submission loss to Rory MacDonald in his hometown of London at Bellator 179 this May. Previously to that, Daley had defeated Brennan Ward by devastating first round KO at Bellator 170. Daley has won two out of his last four fights.
Lorenz Larkin (18-6-1) has recently made the move over from the UFC to Bellator. He made his Bellator debut at Bellator NYC loosing to the Welterweight champion Douglas Lima by unanimous decision. Previously to that Larkin had left the UFC on a two fight win streak with wins over Neil Magny and Jorge Masvidal.
“Larkin is overrated.” Paul Daley told the Telegraph. “I think that I gave Douglas Lima more of a fight when we fought, I brought it to him 100%. I don’t feel like Larkin did that. Not to mention, I don’t think Lima feared Larkin, and as a result, he underperformed. I think even Rory [MacDonald] feared me standing up, granted he has the superior ground skills, but he feared a stand-up exchange with me. Let’s see what Larkin does in San Jose.”
Both men have losses to the current champion Douglas Lima but have hopes of getting another shot with a win at Bellator 183 in San Jose.
Lorenz Larkin told the Telegraph, “After Bellator NYC I got a call and I was chomping at the bit to take another high-level, competitive fight and right now, Paul is that guy.”
“How it is in the division right now, you have your top guys and the guys who are trying to get where Paul and I already are,” he continued. “I just fought for the title, and Daley fought the guy who is going to fight for the belt next, so I think this fight clearly positions the winner to be next in line.”
This fight is headlined by Benson Henderson vs Patricky Pitbull.
