Nicco Montano forced to withdraw from UFC 228 co-main event against Valentina Shevchenko

UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Nicco Montano has been forced to withdraw from her first title defence in the UFC 228 co-main event against Valentina Shevchenko.

Nicco Montano was transported to hospital due to health concerns surrounding her weight cut and will be unable to compete this weekend. According to a statement given to MMAFighting.com, her team said the concern was due to kidney issues.





She will be fine in a few days,” they said in a statement to MMAFighting.com. “The UFC medical team was called in to evaluate her this morning during the process of her weight cut. They determined that she had to cease cutting weight and be transported to and treated at the local hospital for issues regarding her kidney function.”

The UFC also issued the following statement.

“As a precautionary measure, UFC flyweight Nicco Montaño was transported to a medical facility Friday morning due to health concerns.

The scheduled flyweight championship bout between Montaño and Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 228 has been cancelled.”
