Nicco Montano stripped of Women’s Flyweight title following UFC 228 withdrawal

UFC president Dana White has announced that Nicco Montano has been stripped of the UFC Women’s Flyweight title following her withdrawal from UFC 228.

Nicco Montano was due to make her first title defence against Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event but was forced to withdraw due to health issues surrounding her weight cut.

Montano won the Flyweight title back in December 2017 but was yet to defend it. Valentina Shevchenko released the following statement via her Instagram in reaction to the fight cancellation.

Dana White told the FS1 Weigh In show, “The belt becomes vacated so the title is vacated. Obviously Shevchenko is dying to fight for this title, so we’re in the process right now of trying to make another fight before the end of the year”
