First reported by the Irish Mirror, the UFC have confirmed that Neil Seery will face off against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC Fight Night Glasgow this July in what will be his final fight.
Neil Seery (16-12) was due to fight for the last time against Ian McCall at UFC Belfast last November but was unable to do so due to McCall falling ill and withdrawing from the bout. Seery’s last time inside the octagon was a bout against Kyoji Horiguchi at UFC Rotterdam in May last year. He lost the bout by unanimous decision. Previously to that, Seery had won a submission victory over Jon delos Reyes at UFC Fight Night Dublin back in October 2015.
The Irishman has been fighting professionally since 2005. In 2013 Seery won the Cage Warriors Flyweight Championship after beating Mikael Silander by third round submission. He then went on to make his UFC debut back in 2014, now going on to a record of 3-3 in the promotion.
“This fight in Glasgow will let me put that line in the sand and finish my career,” Neil Seery told the Irish Mirror. “Ive done everything that I wanted to do in this game. I’ve achieved a lot in MMA, but as soon as this fight is over Ill be more than happy to walk away.”
His opponent Alexandre Pantoja (17-2) is coming off a split decision win over Eric Shelton at UFC On FOX 23 this past January. Previously to that UFC debut, the Brazilian had reached the TUF 24 semi finals loosing to Hiromasa Ogikubo by unanimous decision. Pantoja will now make his second UFC appearance since the show when he takes on the retiring Neil Seery next.
UFC Fight Night Glasgow will take place at the SSE Hydro, July 16th in Scotland. This will mark the second time the UFC have put on an event in Glasgow.
