The UFC have officially announced that McGregor vs Dos Anjos and Holm vs Tate will take place at UFC 197 March 5th in Las Vegas.
Conor McGregor (19-2) won the Featherweight title by knocking out long reining former champion Jose Aldo in 13 seconds after a long awaited build up to the bout at UFC 194 in December. Prior to winning the Featherweight title McGregor had expressed his desire to move up to Lightweight and become a two division champion. Conor McGregor will now get his shot at the Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos in hopes to become the first UFC champion to hold and defend two belts from two different divisions.
Rafael Dos Anjos (25-7) the current Lightweight Champion will defend his belt for the second time after defeating former champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 185 in March last year. Since winning the title, Dos Anjos recently defended his title against Donald Cerrone in spectacular fashion, with a TKO finish in the first round last December. Dos Anjos also has notable wins over Nate Diaz and Benson Henderson.
Holly Holm (10-0) will defend her Women’s Bantamweight belt for the first time after shocking the world with a head kick knockout of former champion Ronda Rousey. Holm dominated the former champ in some would say was arguably the biggest upset in UFC History. Coming from a pro boxing background, Holm made her MMA debut in 2011 and her UFC debut in 2015. She is currently 3-0 in the UFC, two of those wins coming via decision.
Miesha Tate (17-5) will get another shot at the Women’s Bantamweight title when she takes on the new champion Holly Holm. Tate is currently on a four fight win streak with wins over Liz Carmouche and Sara McMann. Tate has had two attempts at UFC gold but was unsuccessful each time, being caught by armbars from former champ Ronda Rousey. Tate will get her shot again in the co-main event at UFC 197 in March.
