Its been confirmed today that two heavyweights are finally set to square off as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem will do battle at UFC on FOX 17 in Orlando, Florida December 19th. UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone headline this card.
The two have been going back on forth on twitter and it has been noted in the past that Overeem may have been ducking Dos Santos, but he put that all to bed when he called out the former UFC Champion to which he obliged. This will have been a whole year since Dos Santos has last competed, as he was out due to injury.
Junior Dos Santos has a MMA record of 17–3 and has won two out of his last four fights in the UFC. Dos Santos has a notable wins over Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, Mark Hunt, Frank Mir and Shane Carwin just to name few. Dos Santos most recent win was against Stipe Miocic at via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 13 back in December of 2014.
Alistair Overeem has a MMA record of 39–14 (1) and has won three out of his last four fights in the UFC. Overeem hold notable wins over Stefan Struve, Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt and Vitor Belfort just to name a few. Overeem’s most recent win was against Roy Nelson via unanimous decision at UFC 185 this past April.
