UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson vs Ray Borg has been announced to headline UFC 215 in Edmonton, Canada September 9th. Also added to co-headline the event is the rescheduled women’s title fight between Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko.
After having a public disagreement with UFC president Dana White on who his next opponent should be, Demetrious Johnson will get his wish and defend his title against Ray Borg in the main event at UFC 215. This will be his eleventh title defence and if he is successful then he will break the record for the most consecutive title defences in UFC history.
The No3 ranked Flyweight Ray Borg will fight for the title for the first time this September. He is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 106 in March. Previous to that Borg had won another unanimous decision win over Louis Smolka back at UFC 207. Borg is 5-2 in the UFC with two of those wins coming via submission earning him performance of the night bonuses.
Amanda Nunes will defend her UFC Womens Bantamweight title against Valentina Shevchenko in the co main event after their first scheduled bout at UFC 213 was cancelled due to Nunes falling ill. The two will rematch, this time with the 135lbs title on the line. They last fought at UFC 196 in March last year with Amanda Nunes winning by unanimous decision. She then went on to face Miesha Tate at UFC 200 winning the title by submitting Tate in the very first round. She is currently coming off her first title defence against Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 beating her by first round TKO.
Valentina Shevchenko is coming off a second round submission win over Julianna Pena at UFC On FOX 23 earning her the next shot at the title. Previous to that, Shevchenko won a unanimous decision victory over Holly Holm at UFC On FOX 20 in July last year. She is currently 3-1 since entering the UFC with her only loss in the promotion to Amanda Nunes.
