Gilbert Melendez set to face Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night San Diego

Gilbert Melendez steps in for Bobby Green who is out with an injury, to face Al Iaquinta in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night San Diego Wednesday July 15th. This card is headlined by Heavyweight’s Frank Mir and Todd Duffee.

The former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion has a MMA record of 22-5.This is a quick turnaround for Melendez as he just fought Eddie Alvarez at UFC 188 last week, where he lost a split decision. Melendez has just three weeks to prepare for Al Iaquinta.

Iaquinta has a MMA record of 12–3–1. Iaquinta is currently on a four fight win streak in the UFC with notable wins over Rodrigo Damm, Ross Pearson and Joe Lauzon. His most recent win was via split decision over Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night 63 this past April.
