Edson Barboza vs Khabib Nurmagomedov set for UFC 219

The UFC have announced that No.3 ranked Lightweight Edson Barboza will take on No.2 ranked Lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 219 in Las Vegas, December 30th.

Edson Barboza (19-4) is coming off a second round KO victory over Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night 106 back in March. He is currently riding a three fight win streak with his last loss being to the current UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson. Edson Barboza has been competing in the UFC since 2010 and has eleven of his wins coming via KO/TKO which include his famous highlight knockout of Terry Etim back at UFC 142.

Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0) is undefeated with his last victory being over Michael Johnson by submission at UFC 205 back in November last year. Khabib had previously fought just twice in 2016 after returning from injury that saw him out of action since 2014. He was scheduled for the third time to face Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 back in March this year but was taken ill due to weight cutting issues and the bout was cancelled. He will now fight for the first time this year when he takes on Edson Barboza.

UFC 219 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, December 30th. The main event is yet to be announced.
