The UFC have announced that former Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez will take on No. 10-ranked Dustin Poirier at UFC 211 in Dallas this May.
Eddie Alvarez (28-5) last fought at UFC 205 in New York when he lost the Lightweight championship to Conor McGregor by second round TKO. Previously to that, the former champ had won the title when he defeated the former champion Rafael dos Anjos by first round TKO in July last year. Also a former Lightweight Champion in the Bellator MMA promotion, Alvarez made his UFC debut in 2014 loosing to Donald Cerrone. After that, Alvarez had two successful wins earning him a shot at the title. He will now return to the octagon in hopes of working his way back into the title mix.
Dustin Poirier (21-5) is coming off a majority decision victory over Jim Miller at UFC 208 earning a fight of the night bonus. Previously to that he had lost to Michael Johnson by first round KO back in September. That loss had put a stop to his four fight win streak, three of which had come via KO/TKO.
This fight will take place at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, May 13. The event is headlined by a Heavyweight Championship bout between the Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Junior dos Santos.
