Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie battled it out in the main event at UFC 208 for the first UFC Women’s Featherweight title.
The two strikers went the distance at UFC 208 and Germaine De Randamie won the bout by unanimous decision 48-47, 48-47, 48-47 becoming the first UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion. The fight however was surrounded by controversy as on two occasions De Randamie landed shots after the bell rung. She was not deducted a point by the referee but was given a warning the second time it happened.
“I feel like the ref’s from New York shouldn’t be reffing a main event fight, they don’t have enough experience,” UFC President Dana White said backstage. “He should have not of been in there but again we don’t make those decisions the commission does. Bad decision by them and if that guy takes a point for hitting after the bell its a draw.”
“Everyone was blowing me up on the phone ‘whats wrong with this ref, whats wrong with this ref.’ Whats wrong with this ref is that he doesn’t have big fight experience like that, none of these guys do in this state yet. One of the experienced MMA refs in there reffing that main event,” he continued.
Cyborg Justino, the Invicta FC Featherweight Champion and UFC Featherweight contender was in attendance that night. Dana White confirmed that Cyborg will get the next shot at the UFC Featherwight title. But Germaine De Randamie said after the fight that she will need surgery before she defends her title against Cyborg after tearing ligaments in her hand.

“Cyborg’s next,” Dana White said. “She’s got some hurdles to get over but like I said earlier in the week, its looking good for her.”
