The UFC confirmed during their Summer Kick off press conference that former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and Kelvin Gastelum will headline UFC On FOX 25 this July.
Chris Weidman (13-3) captured Middleweight gold back in 2013 when he knocked out the long reigning champion, Anderson Silva. Weidman went on to defend his belt successfully three times before suffering a TKO loss to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 costing him the title. Since his loss to Luke Rockhold, Chris Weidman has suffered another two losses, first to Yoel Romero by TKO and then most recently in a controversial referee stoppage resulting in a TKO loss. Weidman now sets his sights on getting back in the win column as he fights Kelvin Gastelum in his home of Long Island New York.
Kelvin Gastelum (13-2-1) was scheduled to face Anderson Silva at UFC 212 in Brazil this June. He was pulled from the card after failing a drugs test for Marijuana resulting in a suspension and his latest first round TKO win over Vitor Belfort overturned to a no contest. Previously to that, Gastelum made a return to Middleweight with a TKO win over Tim Kennedy at UFC 206. He had previously fought at Welterweight but had problems making weight on multiple occasions. Kelvin Gastelum has suffered only two losses, the first to the current Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley and then to Neil Magny, both by split decisions.
This event will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Colosseum in Long Island, New York July 22nd. Other bouts are yet to be announced.
