It was confirmed today that two of UFC’s top welterweights Carlos Condit and Thiago Alves are set to square off at UFC Fight Night Goiania, Brazil May 30.
Both fighters are former welterweight title contenders with Condit losing to Georges St Pierre at UFC 154 in 2012 and Alves also suffering a loss to GSP at UFC 100 in 2009.
Carlos Condit is coming off of a year long layoff due to an injury suffered in a fight against Tyron Woodley at UFC 171, where he tore his ACL and partially tore his meniscus. Condit has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights and will be looking to get right back in the mix with a win over Thiago Alves.
Thiago Alves is on a two fight win streak with a Fight of the Night win over Seth Bacyzynski at UFC on FOX: Werdum vs Browne and a turnaround win over Jordan Mein at UFC 183. This fight which earned Alves the Performance of the Night bonus ended with a brutal body kick, in a fight where the first round was not looking good for Alves.
