Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez joined his AKA teammate and FOX panellist Daniel Cormier on UFC Today.
With Stipe Miocic retaining the heavyweight belt at UFC 203 over Alistair Overeem, Velasquez is next in line for the next shot. With two important heavyweight fights that night he told Daniel Cormier that he thought Stipe put on a good performance with his win over Overeem. When asked about what he thought of Fabricio Werdum’s fight, who he lost the title to, Cain said he is “Always looking closely at those fights, the heavyweight fights. Especially someone that I lost to”.
Cain went on to explain that he wants the next shot at the title against Stipe Miocic but may have to wait till 2017 as Stipe may take some time out. If that is the case, then Cain is eager to revenge the loss he suffered to Fabricio Werdum back in June at UFC 188. That loss cost him the UFC Heavyweight belt and told Daniel Cormier that “this is personal”.
“If Stipe doesn’t want to take a break then I want him next. If he doesn’t want a break then I’ve been hearing that he might want a fight in 2017. If that’s the case then the only fight that I would want and the only fight that would makes sense right now would be to fight Werdum in December.” He said.
