Cain Velasquez is set to return to the octagon after two years out due to injury. As first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN, a main event bout between Cain Velasquez and Francis Ngannou has been made official for UFC Phoenix, February 17.
Cain Velasquez (14-2) last fought in July 2016 at UFC 200. He took on Travis Browne, winning by first round TKO. One year prior to that, Velasquez lost the UFC Heavyweight title by suffering a submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 in Mexico. This was his first loss since losing the title for the first time to Junior dos Santos back in 2011.
Francis Ngannou (12-3) is coming off a first round TKO win over Curtis Blaydes in China this November. This put him back in the win column after suffering two straight losses to both Stipe Miocic and Derek Lewis. Ngannou is 7-2 in the UFC with all of those wins coming via stoppage.
