BJ Penn vs Yair Rodriguez to Headline UFC Fight Night Phoenix

It has been announced by UFC Espanol, that former Welterweight and Lightweight champion BJ Penn will take on Yair Rodriguez in the main event at UFC Fight Night Phoenix, January 15th.

BJ Penn has a MMA record of 16-10-2 and a UFC record of 13-9-1. Penn holds notable wins over Diego Sanchez, Matt Hughes, Kenny Florian, Caol Uno, Sean Sherk and Jens Pulver. He currently has 3 losses in a row with his latest fight being a TKO loss in round 3 to Frankie Edgar at the TUF Finale back in 2014.
Since announcing his return, BJ Penn was pulled from his scheduled fight against Cole Miller at UFC 199, June 4th due to a potential anti doping violation. He was then due to fight Ricardo Lamas at UFC Fight Night Manila but Penn pulled out of the fight with an injury. Penn will now take on Yair Rodriguez in his return to the octagon.




Yair Rodriguez has an MMA record of 8-1 and is currently on a six fight win streak after suffering his first loss back in 2012. He is coming off a split decision win over Alex Caceres at in Salt Lake City in August. The winner of TUF Latin America, Rodriguez is ranked number 11 in the featherweight division and has won three performance or fight of the night bonuses in his last four fights.

Both fighters currently train out of Jackson Wink in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This fight will take place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix Arizona. Stay tuned for more updates on this card.
