It was confirmed today by UFC correspondent for the Sun Newspaper Simon Head that Michael Bisping is set to take on Thales Leites in the main event at UFC Fight Night Glasgow July 18th at the SSE Hydro arena.
Michael Bisping stated:
“I’ve been talking to the UFC for a long time about fighting back in the UK.” said Bisping. “Then when I heard about the card in Glasgow I was straight on to Dana trying to get on that card. It’s been five years since I fought in the UK and the UK is by far my favourite place to fight.
“Some could say this fight is striker vs. grappler, Thales will look to take me to the floor, there’s no doubt. That being said, he’s a jiu jitsu specialist not a wrestler, and with my take down defence I think he’ll struggle to get me to the floor. Even if he does get me down, I’m confident with my ability on the floor. I’m certainly more skilled and experienced on my feet as well.
“I want the UK audience to show the UFC why we need to keep bringing events back to the UK.”
Long time British UFC vet Michael Bisping has a a record of 26-7 and has won two out of his last four fights. Bisping’s most recent fight was against C.B. Dollaway where he won a unanimous decision at UFC 186 in montreal, canada this past april.
Former Brazilian Middleweight contender Thales Leites has a record 25-4 and is current on a four fight win streak in the UFC. Leites most recent fight was against Tim Boetsch where he won via submission arm triangle choke at UFC 183 back in january.
